Correlative conjunction atau konjungsi berpasangan merupakan kata hubung yang berpasangan yang digunakan untuk menghubungkan dua kata, dua frasa, atau dua klausa.


Yang termasuk kedalam Correlative conjunctions  adalah neither . . . nor, not . . . only, and but . . . also.

Jenis conjunction ini berfungsi untuk menggabungkan/ menghubungkan 2 clauses, phrases, atau words.

Dua element penghubung correlative conjunctions biasanya mempunyai kesamaan dalam Panjang dan struktur gramatikal.

Both . . . and

  • Bothrugby and football are popular in France. Keduanya rugby dan sepak bola adalah olah raga yang popular di francis.
  • BothEnglish and Welsh are spoken in Wales. Keduanya Bahasa inggris dan welsh diucapkan di weles.

 

Not only . . . but also

  • Not onlyis he a professional footballer, but he’s also a successful businessman. Dia bukan hanya propesional dalam sepak bola, tapi juga dia sukses dalam berbisnis.

 

Not . . . but

  • There are nottwo but three Baltic states: Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. Bukan ada 2 tapi 3 negara baltik, yaitu Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

 

  • In sport, what counts is notthe winning but the taking part. Dalam olah raga, yang terpenting bukanlah jadi pemenang malainkan keikutsertaan dalam berpartisifasi.

 

Neither . . . nor

No Sooner. . . than

  • No sooner had I finished watering the garden than it started raining.
  • aku tidak lebih cepat menyiram taman kemudian hujan mulai turun

Subject-verb agreement

Ingat!! Verb yang mengikuti 2 subject digabungkan oleh correlative conjunction harus sama dengan subject kedua, kata Not diletakkan diawal.

  • Either my brother or my mum looks after our cat when we’re away on holiday. 
  • Baik saudara saya atau  ibu saya menjaga kucing kami ketika kami sedang pergi berlibur.
  • Either my brother or my parents look after our cat when we’re away on holiday.
